Locked Out of Your Business Premises?
A commercial lockout costs more per hour than a domestic one because staff are standing outside. What to have ready so it is resolved fast.
A shop that cannot open, or a workshop with a crew waiting outside, is a different kind of urgency from a house lockout. The cost is not the callout, it is the hour of trading or labour lost while it is sorted.
It is usually not a lost key
The most common causes are not lost keys. A failed cylinder on a door that gets used two hundred times a day, an alarm interlock, or a mechanism that has finally worn out after years are all more likely than anybody misplacing anything.
Commercial door hardware does far more cycles in a year than a house door does in a decade. Wear that would take fifteen years at home arrives in two on a shop front, which is why lock repair is such a routine part of commercial work.
Authorisation, sorted before we arrive
Commercial premises need someone authorised by the business present, or contactable, and that is worth establishing on the phone rather than at the door with staff watching.
For leased premises it is worth knowing whether the landlord or the tenant is responsible for the door. It rarely changes what we do, but it decides who the invoice goes to and that is better agreed first.
Tell us what kind of door it is
Aluminium shopfront doors, roller doors and fire exits all behave differently, and telling us which one is stuck lets us arrive with the right parts rather than making a second trip.
A photo taken on the phone is worth more than a description. The lock type is usually obvious from a picture and almost never from words.
What happens on the visit
Where a lock has genuinely failed, we can usually open it without damage and repair or replace the cylinder the same visit, so the door is secure before we leave.
If keys have gone missing, re-keying the existing hardware is normally cheaper and faster than replacing it — and if several doors share a key, they can be kept keyed alike so nothing changes for staff.
Fixing the underlying risk
If your business relies on one set of keys held by one person, that is worth fixing before it becomes an incident. The failure mode is predictable: that person is away, ill, or has left, and the business cannot open.
Premises we cover
Shops, workshops and offices across Hamilton, from the central city and Frankton through to the Te Rapa and Pukete industrial areas.
For businesses that would rather not be caught out, an account arranged in advance means one phone call rather than a negotiation while staff wait outside.
We set up spare car keys programmes and account arrangements for Waikato businesses — see fleet locksmith services or get in touch. A key register done once is cheaper than a single morning of not trading.
Common questions
Who needs to be there for a commercial lockout?
Someone authorised by the business, or contactable to confirm authority. For account customers we agree this once rather than on every callout.
Can you re-key rather than replace our locks?
Usually yes, and it is normally cheaper and faster. Existing hardware is re-pinned to a new key, and doors that share a key can stay keyed alike.
Do you invoice businesses?
Yes, for approved business and fleet accounts. It is set up in advance rather than at the roadside.
Can you attend before opening hours?
We work seven days from 8am. Tell us your opening time when you call and we will work to it where we can.
