BMW 2 Series Locksmith Hamilton
The BMW 2 Series is BMW's compact coupe and Active/Gran Tourer range — a smaller footprint than the 3 Series but built on the same key architecture. It has a following in Hamilton among drivers who want BMW handling without the size of the bigger sedans, and among families who picked the Active Tourer for its practicality. We program BMW 2 Series Comfort Access keys and standard remote keys at your location across Hamilton and the Waikato — no towing, no dealership wait.
- All-keys-lost recovery — no towing
- Smart key & transponder programming
- Spare keys cut and coded on site
- Old lost keys deleted from immobiliser
- Dealer-level diagnostic equipment
- Fixed price quoted before we travel
“Lost the only key to my Hilux on a Friday afternoon. New key cut and programmed in my driveway by Saturday morning — and it cost half what the dealer quoted. Will absolutely call again.”
BMW 2 Series Key Systems by Generation
The 2 Series arrived in 2014, so every version on New Zealand roads sits inside BMW's CAS4/FEM-era key architecture rather than the older CAS2/CAS3 systems found on earlier 1 and 3 Series cars.
2 Series F22/F23 Coupe and Convertible (2014–2021): FEM module key system. Comfort Access proximity entry available on Sport and M-Sport trims, standard remote key on base models. Programming goes through BMW's OBD diagnostic sequence on a working-key job.
2 Series F45/F46 Active Tourer and Gran Tourer (2014–2021): Front-wheel-drive BMW platform shared with the Mini Clubman/Countryman underneath, but the key system is pure BMW FEM — same equipment and approach as the coupe.
All-keys-lost 2 Series: A FEM all-keys-lost job means taking the module out, reading it on the bench in the van, writing the fresh key, and refitting it — longer than a working-key job and priced to reflect the extra bench time.
Common BMW 2 Series Key Problems in Hamilton
Comfort Access fob not detecting: A flat CR2032 in the fob causes intermittent proximity failures on F22/F45 models. We carry the correct cell and re-pair on site.
All keys lost: The most common 2 Series callout we get — often a single-key car bought second-hand with the original owner's spare never handed over. FEM bench recovery, no towing required.
Worn fold-out key blade: The 2 Series remote key blade hinge wears with age, same as other F-series BMWs. Cut and replaced on site.
Remote de-sync after battery disconnect: Re-paired via OBD without needing a new fob in most cases.

Frequently asked
BMW key questions
Can you program a BMW 2 Series key without the original?
Yes. All-keys-lost F22, F23, F45 and F46 2 Series recovery is a FEM module bench job — done in the van at your vehicle, no towing required.
How much does a BMW 2 Series key replacement cost?
Working-key Comfort Access reprogram: $350–$550. All-keys-lost FEM bench job: $550–$900 depending on access. Exact price confirmed over the phone.
Can you do a 2021 or newer BMW 2 Series?
We cover the BMW 2 Series up to 2020 model year. European manufacturers moved to tighter, often dealer-only security systems on their newest models, so for 2021-onward cars call us with your registration and we'll confirm honestly whether it's something we can do before you book anything.
