BMW 4 Series Locksmith Hamilton

The BMW 4 Series is the coupe, convertible and Gran Coupe sibling of the 3 Series — sharper styling, the same premium following in Hamilton's professional suburbs, and the same underlying BMW key architecture. From the F32/F33/F36 range through to the G22, the 4 Series uses CAS4/FEM and BDC key systems that need BMW-specific diagnostic access, not generic aftermarket tools. We program BMW 4 Series Comfort Access keys and standard remote keys at your location across Hamilton and the Waikato.

  • Smart key & transponder programming
  • Spare keys cut and coded on site

“Lost the only key to my Hilux on a Friday afternoon. New key cut and programmed in my driveway by Saturday morning — and it cost half what the dealer quoted. Will absolutely call again.”

BMW 4 Series Key Systems by Generation

4 Series F32/F33/F36 (2013–2020): Coupe, Convertible and Gran Coupe. Uses BMW's CAS4/FEM key system, the same family as the equivalent-era 3 Series. Comfort Access standard on Sport and M-Sport trims. All-keys-lost needs a BMW security token and, on FEM-equipped cars, a module bench read.

4 Series G22/G23 (2020–present): Current generation moved to BDC — BMW's most integrated body/key architecture. Falls mostly outside our coverage window; see the FAQ below on the 2021-onward cutoff.

M4 variants: The F82/F83 M4 and later G82 M4 share the same key platform as the standard 4 Series for their generation — no separate tooling required.

Common BMW 4 Series Key Problems in Hamilton

F32 Comfort Access signal weak: CR2032 battery failing in the fob — one of our most common 4 Series callouts. Correct cell carried on the van, re-paired on site.

F32/F36 all-keys-lost: CAS4/FEM security token access required. Where the car is FEM-equipped this is a bench job done at your location; where it's CAS4 it's usually a straight OBD write. We confirm which on the phone before travelling.

Worn Comfort Access key casing: The F-series fold-out key wears at the blade hinge with regular pocket carry. Cut and replaced on site.

Gran Coupe rear-seat key detection: A known quirk on some F36 units where the interior antenna under-detects a key left in the back — usually a programming re-sync rather than a hardware fault.

BMW 4 Series Generations and Coverage

We service the following New Zealand 4 Series generations:

  • F32/F33/F36 (2013–2020): CAS4 on earlier production (OBD write), FEM on later production (module bench job) — confirmed by build before we travel
  • G22/G23 (2020 onward): BDC architecture, mostly outside our coverage window; see the FAQ on the 2021-onward cutoff
  • M4 performance variants: Same key platform as the standard 4 Series for their generation, no separate tooling required

Call us with your registration and build year and we will confirm exactly which module your 4 Series uses and give you a price before travelling.

Real Job Example: 2016 BMW 435i Gran Coupe, Rototuna

A Rototuna owner's only Comfort Access key to their 2016 435i Gran Coupe F36 was stolen along with a bag left in a cafe. With no spare and the car immobilised in a driveway, it was an urgent callout.

We arrived within 35 minutes. The F36 runs BMW's FEM module, so the job meant removing the module, reading it on the bench inside the van, generating a fresh key registration, writing it, and deleting the stolen key's code from the system entirely — so it could never be used to start the car again.

Total time on site: 90 minutes. The dealer had quoted $1,180 and a three-day wait for the part to arrive from Auckland; we had the family back on the road the same afternoon.

Frequently asked

BMW key questions

Can you program a BMW 4 Series key without the original?

Yes. All-keys-lost F32, F33 and F36 4 Series recovery via CAS4 OBD or FEM bench work, depending on which module your car has — we confirm which before travelling.

How much does a BMW 4 Series key replacement cost?

Working-key CAS4 Comfort Access reprogram: $420–$620. FEM all-keys-lost bench job: $600–$950. Exact price confirmed over the phone.

How long does BMW 4 Series key programming take?

Working key: 45–65 minutes. All-keys-lost FEM bench recovery: 75–110 minutes.

Do you service the BMW M4?

Yes — F82/F83 M4 (2014–2020) uses the standard F-series key platform.

Can you delete a stolen or lost BMW 4 Series key from the car?

Yes. Deleting the old key's code from the FEM or CAS4 module is standard on every all-keys-lost job, at no extra cost while we're already there.

Can you do a 2021 or newer BMW 4 Series?

We cover the BMW 4 Series up to 2020 model year. European manufacturers moved to tighter, often dealer-only security systems on their newest models, so for 2021-onward cars call us with your registration and we'll confirm honestly whether it's something we can do before you book anything.
