GWM Cannon Ute Locksmith Hamilton

Current GWM Cannon utes use a proximity smart key with push-button start, programmed to the vehicle's immobiliser via the OBD port. The system is built for the Cannon's working environment, but the underlying programming approach is consistent with other current-generation smart key vehicles we work on.

All-keys-lost Cannon: The most urgent Cannon call we receive. We read the security data from the immobiliser, generate a new key registration, cut and program a replacement key, and delete the lost key's codes from the system — done at the ute's location in the great majority of cases.

Spare keys: A Cannon running on one key is an accident waiting to happen on a job site. Cutting a spare while the original still works is far cheaper than an emergency all-keys-lost callout.

Fob battery: The Cannon's smart key uses a CR2032 cell. When it starts going flat, push-start detection becomes intermittent before it fails.

All keys lost on job site: Keys go missing on building sites, in paddocks, and at the beach. We attend these across Hamilton and out to Cambridge and Te Awamutu.

Fob not detecting: Almost always a flat CR2032 battery, sometimes with a de-pair event. We carry the correct battery and re-pair the fob on site.

Broken key blade: The Cannon's mechanical backup blade can snap in a hurry on a busy site. We extract broken blades without removing the barrel and cut a new one on site.

Spare key programmes for fleet: Businesses running multiple Cannons benefit from a planned spare key visit for every vehicle rather than emergency callouts one at a time.

We cover the GWM Cannon ute up to and including 2023 model year. GWM is still growing its NZ range, so for a 2024 or newer Cannon, call us with your registration and we will confirm coverage honestly before booking a visit.

Smart key programming with an existing working key typically runs $350–$550. All-keys-lost recovery adds roughly $150–$300 on top. We always confirm a firm price over the phone before travelling.

A Te Awamutu farmer called us after losing both keys to his GWM Cannon within the same week — one dropped somewhere in a paddock, the other left in a jacket that went through the wash. The ute was needed for the next morning's run.

We arrived within 45 minutes. Using OBD access to the immobiliser, we read the security data, generated two new key registrations, cut and programmed two replacement keys, and deleted the old codes from the system.

Total time on site: 65 minutes. Two working keys, same afternoon — no towing to a dealer two towns away.
