The RC Colorado (2008–2012) uses a straightforward transponder key with a separate remote for central locking — a simple, affordable system to replace on this generation.

The RG Colorado (2012–2020, including the facelifted RG Series II) carried an updated transponder remote key across most trims, with some higher-spec LTZ and Z71 variants adding push-to-start in later model years. The RG is by far the most common Colorado still working across Hamilton and Waikato farms and fleets.

Key programming on both generations is carried out through the vehicle's OBD port, and all-keys-lost recovery reads the immobiliser's security data directly — no original key needed, and no need to involve a dealership that may no longer stock every part.

All keys lost on the job: The most common Colorado emergency — keys gone on a building site, in a paddock, or somewhere on a rural property. We attend these across the Waikato and generate a new key from the vehicle's security data, no towing involved.

Remote not working: Often a flat CR2032 battery, sometimes a de-sync after the main battery has been disconnected for servicing. We carry correct batteries and re-pair on site.

Broken key blade in ignition: Common on high-mileage, hard-working Colorados. We extract the blade without damaging the barrel and cut a replacement on site.

Spare key for fleet or farm use: Many Colorados are shared between multiple drivers on a working property — a cut and programmed spare removes the risk of one lost key stopping the whole operation.
