Holden Commodore Locksmith Hamilton
The Holden Commodore is an Australian icon with a loyal following in New Zealand — and Hamilton is no exception. Despite Holden ceasing NZ operations in 2020, the Commodore remains common on Waikato roads in large numbers. VE and VF Commodores are particularly prevalent as practical, powerful family cars and work vehicles. The Commodore uses GM's key systems, which range from straightforward transponder remotes on older models to the push-to-start SIDI key on VF Series II Redline variants. No new Commodore models are being built, but we continue to service all existing Commodore generations.

“Lost the only key to my Hilux on a Friday afternoon. New key cut and programmed in my driveway by Saturday morning — and it cost half what the dealer quoted. Will absolutely call again.”
Holden Commodore Key Systems by Generation
Commodore VT–VZ (1997–2006): Basic transponder key with a separate remote on most variants. The VT–VZ is now a popular second-hand workhorse in Hamilton — affordable, reliable, and very common. Key replacement is straightforward.
Commodore VE (2006–2013): The VE introduced GM's enhanced transponder remote key across all NZ variants. Push-to-start appeared on SS and Calais V models. The VE is one of the most common Commodores in Hamilton.
Commodore VF (2013–2017): The VF refined the VE's key system. The VF Series II Redline and Calais V added a push-to-start proximity key. All-keys-lost VF recovery via GM OBD sequence.
Commodore ZB (2018–2020, European-based): The ZB Commodore was based on the Opel Insignia and used an entirely different key system from the traditional AU-built models. OBD smart key programming via GM/Opel tooling.
Common Commodore Key Problems in Hamilton
VE remote not working: One of our most common non-emergency callouts. The VE remote uses a CR2032 battery — many owners replace it with a substandard cell. We carry quality CR2032 cells and re-sync on site.
VT–VZ all-keys-lost: Transponder key recovery for older Commodores — affordable and quick. Very common as the car changes hands multiple times.
VF all-keys-lost: GM OBD sequence for VF transponder and push-to-start models. No towing required.
Ignition barrel wear (VE): The VE ignition barrel is known to wear on high-mileage vehicles — sticking, or requiring excessive force to turn. We strip, repair, and re-key to existing keys where possible.
ZB key programming: The ZB uses Opel-derived key technology — we confirm coverage before travel.
