Older Octavias use a conventional transponder key — a chipped blade, sometimes with a separate remote for central locking. Later models moved to a key with an integrated remote, and the newest Octavias on the road use a smart or proximity key with push-button start.

Whichever generation you have, programming is done through the OBD port with a working key in hand: we plug in, authenticate with the immobiliser, and write the new key in well under an hour in most cases.

If every key has gone missing, there is nothing left to copy from, so we read the immobiliser or ECU directly to recover the data needed and generate a brand-new key from it. That is EEPROM work, done in the van at your car rather than sent away — slower than a straightforward spare key, and priced accordingly, but it means an all-keys-lost Octavia does not need to be towed anywhere.

Cutting a new key does not switch an old one off. If a key has been lost, stolen, or simply not handed over with a second-hand Octavia, we can delete it from the immobiliser at the same visit so it can never start the car again.

Flat remote or smart key battery is the most common call — the car still starts, but the central locking or proximity detection becomes unreliable. We carry the right coin-cell batteries and re-pair the key on site if the swap causes a de-sync.

Worn or chipped original keys on higher-mileage Octavias sometimes start the car inconsistently. A fresh key cut and registered to the immobiliser resolves it without touching the barrel.

Single-key households are common with the Octavia, particularly on cars bought second-hand with only one key handed over. Cutting a spare while the original still works is a far cheaper, calmer job than an emergency all-keys-lost callout later.

Locked keys inside the car is a straightforward job for us — non-destructive entry tools open the door without marking paint or seals, usually in under ten minutes.

We cover Skoda Octavia models up to and including the 2020 model year — hatch, wagon (Combi) and vRS variants all included. Earlier cars with simple transponder keys are generally the most affordable to replace; later pre-2020 cars with smart keys take a little longer and cost a little more.
