Older Grand Cherokees use a straightforward transponder key with a separate or integrated remote. Later models, particularly from the mid-2010s, are fitted with a smart proximity key and push-button start. Both are generally programmed through the OBD port with a working key present — we plug in, authenticate with the immobiliser, and write the new key at the vehicle.

If every key is missing, we read the immobiliser or ECU directly to recover what is needed and generate a new key from that data — EEPROM work done in the van, not sent away, so the Grand Cherokee is not towed. It takes longer than a spare key cut from a working original, and we price it accordingly.

A number of newer Jeep vehicles run a Secure Gateway module that can genuinely limit what an independent locksmith can do without manufacturer-level access. We will not pretend certainty either way over the phone — call us with your registration and we will check before booking the job, rather than turning up and finding out on your driveway.

Flat smart key batteries cause most of the intermittent push-button start issues we see — we carry the correct battery and re-pair the fob on site. Owners down to a single key are a common planned-spare booking, and all-keys-lost happens more often than expected on a vehicle that often sits for days between drives.
