Jeep Wrangler Key Systems — What You Need to Know

Older Wranglers use a conventional transponder key. From the JK and especially the JL generation, Jeep introduced a smart proximity key option alongside the standard remote, depending on trim. Programming for either is generally done through the OBD port with a working key present.

For an all-keys-lost Wrangler, we read the immobiliser or ECU directly to recover what is needed and generate a new key from that — done in the van at the vehicle, not sent away, which matters when the Wrangler in question is parked somewhere a tow truck cannot easily reach.
