Subaru Legacy Locksmith Hamilton
The Subaru Legacy has a long history as a reliable, well-built sedan and wagon in New Zealand, and Hamilton has plenty of long-term Legacy owners who bought one for exactly that reputation. Older Legacy generations use a conventional transponder remote key, while newer models brought Subaru's proximity smart key with push-button start to higher trims. We program Subaru Legacy keys at your location across Hamilton and the Waikato.

“Lost the only key to my Hilux on a Friday afternoon. New key cut and programmed in my driveway by Saturday morning — and it cost half what the dealer quoted. Will absolutely call again.”
Subaru Legacy Key Systems by Generation
Legacy BL/BP (2003–2009) and BM/BR era (2009–2014): These generations use a transponder remote key on most NZ variants. Straightforward, affordable to replace, and common as a reliable second-hand family car in Hamilton.
Legacy (2014–present): Later Legacy models brought Subaru's proximity smart key with push-button start to Premium and higher trims, while base variants in some years retained a transponder remote. Programming is carried out through the vehicle's diagnostic port.
All-keys-lost Legacy: We read the immobiliser through the OBD port, generate a new key registration, and delete the lost key from the system — done on site with no towing required in the great majority of cases.
Common Subaru Legacy Key Problems in Hamilton
Smart key not detecting: A flat coin-cell battery causing intermittent proximity failures is the most common cause on smart-key Legacy models. We carry the correct battery and re-pair the key on site.
Older BL/BP transponder key lost: A simple, affordable replacement job via the diagnostic port — one of our more accessible Legacy callouts.
Remote de-sync after a 12V battery change: Subaru remotes occasionally de-register after the main battery is disconnected. We re-pair via OBD on site, no new fob needed.
Only one key from purchase: Common on older, higher-mileage Legacys that have changed hands several times. We cut and program a spare while the original still works.
Real Job Example: 2016 Legacy Premium, Hillcrest
A Hillcrest owner called us after her Legacy Premium's smart key started failing to unlock the car reliably, sometimes requiring several attempts before the doors would respond.
On arrival, we diagnosed a weakening fob battery causing marginal proximity detection. We replaced the battery with the correct cell, re-paired the key via the diagnostic port, and tested proximity unlock and push-button start through multiple cycles to confirm a stable fix.
Total time on site: 25 minutes. No replacement key was needed.
