Subaru XV / Crosstrek Locksmith Hamilton

XV GP (2012–2017): A transponder remote key on most NZ variants, shared with the equivalent-generation Impreza. Straightforward and affordable to replace.

XV / Crosstrek GT (2017–present): The current generation introduced a proximity smart key with push-button start across most NZ trims. Programming is carried out through the vehicle's diagnostic port, with proximity and start function confirmed before we finish.

All-keys-lost XV/Crosstrek: We read the immobiliser through the OBD port, generate a new key registration, and delete the lost key from the system — done on site with no towing required in the great majority of cases.

GT smart key not detecting: A flat coin-cell battery causing intermittent proximity failures — our most common XV/Crosstrek callout. We carry the correct battery and re-pair on site.

GP transponder key lost: A common, affordable replacement job via the diagnostic port.

Remote de-sync after 12V battery change: Re-paired via OBD on site, no new fob needed.

Spare key before a road trip: Many XV owners use the car for weekend trips and want a second key cut before travelling — we do these on site while the original still works.

A Flagstaff owner called us when her XV's smart key became unreliable — the doors would sometimes unlock on approach and sometimes not, and push-button start occasionally needed several attempts.

On arrival, we tested the fob and confirmed the coin-cell battery had weakened to the point of marginal proximity detection — strong enough to work occasionally, not strong enough to work consistently. We fitted a fresh battery, re-paired the key to the body control module via the OBD port, and ran the car through multiple unlock and start cycles to confirm a stable fix before leaving.

Total time on site: 22 minutes. No replacement key was required.
