“Lost the only key to my Hilux on a Friday afternoon. New key cut and programmed in my driveway by Saturday morning — and it cost half what the dealer quoted. Will absolutely call again.”

Ford Kuga Key Systems by Generation

The first-generation Kuga (2008–2012) and second-generation Kuga (2013–2019) both use Ford's PATS transponder key, with a separate remote fob on most trims. Which generation the vehicle uses decides whether a new key goes in over OBD directly or needs the module read, and we confirm this from your plate before travelling.

The current third-generation Kuga (2020–present) carries Ford's Intelligent Key system on higher trims, with proximity entry and push-to-start. Both systems are programmed through the vehicle's OBD port, and all-keys-lost recovery works without needing the original key.

Common Kuga Key Problems in Hamilton

All keys lost: A regular callout across every Kuga generation — we generate a new key directly from the vehicle's security data, on site.

Remote or fob battery failure: A flat CR2032 battery is the most common cause of intermittent locking or push-to-start issues. We carry correct batteries and re-pair on site.

Broken key blade: More common on older PATS-equipped Kugas — extracted and recut without barrel damage.

Frequently asked

Ford key questions

Can you program a Ford Kuga key without the original?

Yes. All-keys-lost Kuga recovery works on PATS and Intelligent Key generations via OBD.

How much does a Ford Kuga key replacement cost?

PATS transponder (older models): $180–$300. Intelligent Key (current generation): $340–$560. Exact price confirmed over the phone.

Can you do a 2023 or newer Ford Kuga?

We cover Kuga up to 2022 model year. For 2023-onward models, call us with your registration and we'll confirm — these are newer to the market and we're expanding coverage, so ring first rather than assume either way.
