Ford Puma Locksmith Hamilton

The Ford Puma is a relatively recent addition to Hamilton roads — a compact crossover built on Ford's Fiesta platform that has found favour with commuters and smaller families since arriving in New Zealand. Puma uses Ford's Intelligent Key system across most NZ trims, with proximity entry and push-to-start standard from mid-spec upward. Because it's a newer model, owners can find dealer lead times for lost keys frustrating — we sort it on site, usually the same day.

We program Ford Puma keys at your location across Hamilton and the Waikato — all-keys-lost recovery, spare keys, and fob repairs, without a tow or a workshop booking.

  • All-keys-lost recovery — no towing
  • Smart key & transponder programming
  • Spare keys cut and coded on site
  • Old lost keys deleted from immobiliser
  • Dealer-level diagnostic equipment
  • Fixed price quoted before we travel

“Lost the only key to my Hilux on a Friday afternoon. New key cut and programmed in my driveway by Saturday morning — and it cost half what the dealer quoted. Will absolutely call again.”

Ford Puma Key Systems

The Puma has been sold in New Zealand since around 2020 with a consistent key architecture across model years. Mid-spec and ST-Line trims use Ford's Intelligent Key — a proximity fob that allows push-to-start and keyless entry without being removed from a pocket or bag. Entry-level trims may use a standard remote key with a chipped blade.

Both key types are programmed through the Puma's OBD port using Ford-compatible diagnostic equipment. All-keys-lost recovery reads the vehicle's security data directly from its onboard systems, generates a new key registration, and removes the lost key from the system — no original required, and no need to involve the dealer.

Common Puma Key Problems in Hamilton

All keys lost: The most urgent Puma call we get, often from owners with just the one key and no spare cut yet. We generate a replacement directly from the vehicle, on site.

Fob battery failure: A flat CR2032 cell causes intermittent proximity detection. We carry the correct battery and re-pair the fob if needed, in the same visit.

Spare key never cut: Many newer Pumas are still running on their original single key from new — cutting a spare now is cheap insurance against a far costlier emergency callout later.

Remote de-sync after a battery change: Occasionally affects the Puma after the 12V battery is disconnected for servicing — resolved via OBD re-pairing on site.

Puma Coverage and Pricing

We cover Ford Puma key jobs across every Hamilton suburb and throughout the Waikato, including Cambridge and Te Awamutu.

Standard remote key: typically $180–$290. Intelligent Key (mid-spec and ST-Line): typically $340–$560. All-keys-lost jobs add to the base price for the extra recovery work, and we always confirm the exact figure over the phone before travelling.

Call with your Puma's trim and year and we'll tell you straight away what's involved.

Real Job Example: 2021 Ford Puma ST-Line, Chartwell

A Chartwell commuter called us on a weekday morning after losing her only Puma key somewhere between the car park and her office — no spare had ever been cut since buying the car new the year before.

We arrived within 30 minutes. Using OBD access to the Puma's BCM, we read the security data, generated and programmed a new Intelligent Key, and confirmed the immobiliser was clear of any old or duplicate registrations.

Total time on site: 40 minutes. She drove home that evening with a working key and a genuine spare cut for next time, avoiding what would otherwise have been a multi-week dealer part order for a newer model.
