PX Ranger (2011–2022): The PX Ranger went through three iterations (PX1, PX2, PX3). Earlier PX1/PX2 models use Ford's PATS (Passive Anti-Theft System) transponder key with a separate remote fob on XL/XLS variants. XLT and Wildtrak from around 2015 onward added Ford's Intelligent Key with keyless entry and push-to-start.

Next-Gen Ranger (2022–present): The current Ranger uses Ford's latest Intelligent Key system across all variants. Push-to-start, proximity entry, and a more sophisticated immobiliser. Key programming requires OBD access with Ford-compatible diagnostic software.

Ranger Raptor: Both the PX-era Raptor and current Raptor use the Intelligent Key system. Programming sequence is the same as the standard Ranger.

All keys lost on job site: The most common Ranger emergency call. Building sites, farms, The Base car park, rural properties — Ranger keys go missing all over the Waikato. We attend these every week. New Intelligent Key or PATS key generated from the vehicle's security data at the site.

Intelligent Key not detecting: The Ranger's push-start system can fail intermittently when the fob battery is marginal. We carry the correct CR2032 cells and re-pair if the battery change de-synced the fob.

Broken key blade in ignition: More common on older PX Rangers with conventional transponder keys. We extract the blade without barrel damage and cut a replacement on site.

Ignition barrel wear: High-mileage PX Rangers develop ignition barrel wear — keys that take more force than they used to, or feel loose. We repair and re-key rather than replace where possible.

Spare Intelligent Key: A Ranger owner who has lost one of two keys — now down to one. A spare Intelligent Key cut while the original is available is substantially cheaper than an emergency callout later.

A Cambridge building contractor called us on a Thursday morning. His 2021 Ford Ranger Wildtrak had lost all keys on a job site the previous afternoon — they had been on a site table during a concrete pour and were not found after cleanup.

We arrived at the site within 40 minutes. The Ranger Wildtrak uses Ford's Intelligent Key with push-to-start. We accessed the BCM via OBD, initiated the Ford Intelligent Key all-keys-lost sequence, cut and programmed a new key, and deleted the lost key codes from the system.

Total time: 65 minutes from arrival. Dealer had quoted $820 plus a three-day workshop booking. We completed the job on site and the contractor drove away the same morning.
