Nissan Sylphy Key Systems by Generation

Sylphy G11 (2005–2012): An earlier generation, mostly seen in New Zealand as a Japanese-market import, running a transponder key with an integrated or separate remote depending on trim. Affordable and straightforward to replace.

Sylphy B17 (2012–2019): Mid-spec and higher B17 models commonly run Nissan's Intelligent Key with push-button start, while base grades continued with a transponder remote.

Sylphy B18 (2019–present): The current generation runs Intelligent Key across most trims. All generations work through Nissan's NATS system via the BCM — an all-keys-lost job means pulling a PIN from the vehicle before a new key can be written, whether it's an older transponder car or a current Intelligent Key model.

Common Sylphy Key Problems in Hamilton

Only key lost — rideshare driver, no downtime possible: A frequent Sylphy callout. Drivers relying on the car for income can't afford to wait for a dealer slot. We prioritise these and generate a new key directly from the vehicle on site.

Intelligent Key not detecting (B17/B18): A marginal fob battery causes intermittent push-button start failures. We carry the correct CR2032 battery and re-pair on site.

Worn transponder key (G11): High-mileage imports with an original worn key can start inconsistently. We cut a new key with a freshly registered chip.

Keys locked inside between fares: A regular callout for drivers who've locked themselves out mid-shift. Non-destructive entry in most cases under ten minutes.

Real Job Example: 2017 Sylphy B17, Te Rapa

A rideshare driver's only Intelligent Key stopped working during a shift near Te Rapa — the fob would unlock the car but wouldn't let him start it, leaving him unable to pick up any further fares.

We attended quickly given the time-sensitive nature of the job, pulled the PIN via NATS through the BCM, and programmed a replacement Intelligent Key on site, confirming the car started reliably before leaving.

Total time on site: 40 minutes. He was back picking up fares within the hour instead of losing the rest of his shift.

Frequently asked

Nissan key questions

Can you program a Nissan Sylphy Intelligent Key without the original?

Yes. All-keys-lost Sylphy recovery works through Nissan's NATS system via the BCM across all generations.

How much does a Sylphy key replacement cost in Hamilton?

G11 transponder: $150–$260. B17/B18 Intelligent Key: $300–$500. All-keys-lost adds $100–$200 on top.

Can you prioritise rideshare and private-hire drivers who need to get back to work?

Yes — we understand downtime costs drivers money and prioritise these jobs where we can.

Can you do a 2023 or newer Sylphy?

We cover the Sylphy up to 2022 model year. For 2023-onward models, call us with your registration and we'll confirm — these are newer to the market and we're expanding coverage, so ring first rather than assume either way.

Do you service imported Sylphy models as well as NZ-new?

Yes — Japanese-market Sylphy imports are common in Hamilton and we service them the same as NZ-new cars.
