The MG HS uses a proximity smart key with push-button start across the current NZ range, with the fob communicating to the vehicle's immobiliser via a coded signal. Programming a new or spare key is carried out through the OBD port rather than by cutting alone.

All-keys-lost HS: We read the security data from the immobiliser, generate a new key registration, program a replacement fob, and delete the lost key's codes from the system. Done at your vehicle in the great majority of cases — no towing required.

HS Plug-in Hybrid: The PHEV variant uses the same smart key approach as the petrol HS. The hybrid drivetrain does not change the programming process.

Spare keys: An HS family SUV running on one key is a real risk for a household — losing it strands everyone. Cutting a spare while the original still works is inexpensive and worth doing early.

Fob battery flat or de-synced: The leading cause of an HS that suddenly will not detect its key. We carry the correct CR2032 battery and re-pair the fob on site.

All keys lost: HS owners losing both keys over several years of ownership is a common pattern — the second key is often never used and eventually misplaced. We generate a fresh key directly from the vehicle.

Fob case wear: Daily use in a family car means scuffed or cracked fob casings. We rebuild fobs with a new casing where the internal electronics are intact.

Locked out with keys inside: A common HS callout at school pick-up or the supermarket. Non-destructive entry in most cases under ten minutes.

We cover the MG HS up to and including 2023 model year. MG's NZ range is still growing, so for a 2024 or newer HS, call us with your registration and we will confirm coverage honestly before anyone travels — we are expanding coverage as more of these arrive on Kiwi roads.

Smart key programming with an existing working key typically runs $350–$550. All-keys-lost recovery adds roughly $150–$300 on top to cover the extra diagnostic work. We always confirm a firm price over the phone first.
