Dodge Car Key Replacement in Hamilton

Dodge occupies a specific niche in the Waikato — owners who want American character and performance in a market dominated by Japanese and European brands. The Durango SUV, Charger, and Journey are the models most commonly seen on Hamilton roads. Dodge uses Stellantis Group key technology (shared with Jeep, Chrysler, Ram, and Fiat), which means the same FCA diagnostic tools we use for Jeep and Chrysler handle Dodge programming correctly.

We program Dodge keys for the most common NZ models. Durango, Charger, Journey — if your Dodge has a key problem, we come to you.

  • All-keys-lost Dodge key recovery
  • Spare keys cut and coded on site
  • Damage-free vehicle lockout entry
  • Old keys erased from the immobiliser

“Locked my keys in the boot at the supermarket with groceries melting inside. He arrived in 25 minutes, had the car open without a mark on it, and was polite and professional throughout. Highly recommend.”

Dodge Key Systems — Stellantis / FCA Architecture

Dodge Durango: The Durango uses FCA Group's smart key system with push-button start. Programming requires OBD access to the BCM/RFH module with FCA credentials. The Durango is a large SUV — all-keys-lost recovery is an OBD job, no towing required.

Dodge Charger: The Charger's smart key system is the same FCA platform used across the range. The Charger fob is well-built but the battery goes flat like any other CR2032-powered proximity key.

Dodge Journey: The Journey uses a transponder key with a remote central locking fob on most NZ-delivered examples. Programming is via OBD BCM access — more affordable than the current smart key platform.

Dodge Ram: Less common in NZ but we carry tooling for the Ram. Coverage confirmed before travel on specific variants.

Common Dodge Key Problems in Hamilton

Durango smart key not detecting: A flat fob battery or a de-pair event. We carry the correct batteries and re-pair on site.

Charger proximity key issues: The Charger's push-button start system is sensitive to fob battery voltage. A marginal battery triggers detection failures before it goes completely flat. We carry the correct batteries.

Journey remote not working: The Journey's remote central locking fob uses a CR2032. When flat, remote locking stops working but the key still starts the car. We replace and re-sync on site.

Dodge all-keys-lost: OBD FCA BCM access for all-keys-lost recovery. We perform this for most NZ Dodge models we hold tooling for.

All keys lost — when there is nothing left to copy

Losing every key is a different job from cutting a spare. There is no original to read, so the new key has to be generated from the vehicle itself. On most Dodge models we do that through the OBD port: the diagnostic tool talks to the immobiliser, authenticates, and writes a brand-new key into the vehicle's memory.

Where a model will not accept a new key over OBD — some older immobiliser boxes and a few later security modules simply refuse — we read the immobiliser or ECU memory directly, recover the key data held in it, and write a new key from that. That is EEPROM work, and it is done in the van at your vehicle rather than sent away. It is slower than an OBD job and priced accordingly, but it means an all-keys-lost Dodge does not need towing to a dealer.

Deleting a lost or stolen key from the car

Cutting you a new key does not stop the old one working. If a Dodge key has been lost, stolen, or kept by a previous owner, the car will still start for whoever holds it until that key is removed from the immobiliser's memory.

Ask us to delete it and we de-register the missing key so it no longer starts the vehicle. It costs nothing extra while we are already programming a replacement, and it is the part most people do not think to ask for. Worth doing on any second-hand purchase where the seller could not hand over every key.

Used imports and NZ-new Dodge models are not always the same job

Not every Dodge on Waikato roads was sold new here. Vehicles that arrived used from another market can carry a different immobiliser generation and a different key blank from the NZ-new version of the same model and year, even when the two look identical.

Remote frequency is the usual giveaway: vehicles built for New Zealand, Australia and Europe generally run at 433MHz, while cars built for other markets often sit elsewhere on the band. A remote bought online for the wrong market will not talk to the car even when the blade fits.

This is why we ask for the registration before we set off rather than just the make and model — it tells us which build the vehicle actually is, so we bring the right blank and the right equipment the first time.
