Why the GLB Sits Outside What an Independent Locksmith Can Do

FBS4 authorises every new key through Mercedes' own servers in Germany using two-way cryptographic verification. There is no local coding step the way older Mercedes immobilisers allowed, so no independent locksmith — us included — has a legitimate path to programming a GLB key. This is not a skill or equipment gap on our end; it is a closed system reserved for the Mercedes dealer network.

Why can some Mercedes be done independently but not the GLB?

It comes down to when the vehicle was built. Older Mercedes (broadly pre-2015) use the FBS3 system, which independent locksmiths with the right tooling can program. The GLB only exists from 2019, well after Mercedes closed FBS4 to everyone outside its dealer network.
