Why the GLC Sits Outside What an Independent Locksmith Can Do
FBS4 authorises every new key through Mercedes' own servers in Germany using two-way cryptographic verification. There is no local coding step the way older Mercedes immobilisers allowed, so no independent locksmith — us included — has a legitimate path to programming a GLC key, across the X253, C253 Coupe, C254, or any AMG variant. This is not a skill or equipment gap on our end; it is a closed system reserved for the Mercedes dealer network.

Can you program a key for my Mercedes GLC?
No — every GLC runs the FBS4 system, which only Mercedes-Benz dealers can authorise keys for. We are telling you this upfront rather than booking a callout we cannot complete.
Is there any part of a GLC key job you can help with?
Sometimes — a damaged key shell, a broken mechanical lock, or a lockout that does not require writing a new key. Call and describe the problem and we will tell you honestly whether it is something we can do.
Why can some Mercedes be done independently but not the GLC?
It comes down to when the vehicle was built. Older Mercedes (broadly pre-2015) use the FBS3 system, which independent locksmiths with the right tooling can program. The GLC only exists from 2015, right as Mercedes closed FBS4 to everyone outside its dealer network.
