Mercedes Sprinter Locksmith Hamilton

The Mercedes-Benz Sprinter is the backbone of a lot of Waikato trades, courier and delivery fleets, and a van sitting idle over a lost key is real money lost, not an inconvenience. Good news for most Sprinters on the road: the NCV3/W906 generation, built from 2006 through to 2018, runs the same FBS3 immobiliser as older Mercedes passenger cars — one of the few Mercedes vans where coverage runs later than the usual 2014 cutoff. We go through exactly where that line sits below.

  • All-keys-lost recovery — no towing
  • Smart key & transponder programming
  • Spare keys cut and coded on site
  • Old lost keys deleted from immobiliser
  • Dealer-level diagnostic equipment
  • Fixed price quoted before we travel

“Lost the only key to my Hilux on a Friday afternoon. New key cut and programmed in my driveway by Saturday morning — and it cost half what the dealer quoted. Will absolutely call again.”

Why the Sprinter Is Different From Other Mercedes on Key Coverage

Most Mercedes passenger vehicles moved to the closed FBS4 key system around 2015. The Sprinter did not follow the same timeline — the NCV3/W906 generation (2007–2018) kept running FBS3 well past that point, which is why we can program these vans years later than the equivalent C-Class or E-Class. The next-generation VS30 Sprinter, introduced for the 2019 model year and built on a shared platform with the Volkswagen Crafter, moved onto FBS4 like the rest of the current Mercedes range.

NCV3/W906 Sprinter (2007–2018, FBS3) vs VS30 Sprinter (2019+, FBS4)

NCV3/W906 (2007–2018): EIS transponder key via the ignition switch module. We program spare keys, recover all-keys-lost situations by reading the EIS, and delete lost or stolen keys from the system — all at your vehicle, no towing to a workshop.

VS30 (2019 onward): The current-generation Sprinter authorises keys through Mercedes' FBS4 server system, the same as modern passenger Mercedes. This is closed to independent locksmiths. If your Sprinter is a 2019 or newer build, the Mercedes dealer network is currently the only option for a new key.

Not sure which generation yours is? The easiest tell is the cab shape — NCV3 has the older, more rounded dash; VS30 (2019+) has a completely redesigned interior closer to a modern car. If in doubt, call with your rego and we will confirm by VIN.

Common Sprinter Key Problems on Waikato Job Sites

All keys lost on site: The most disruptive Sprinter callout for a trade business. We read the EIS data and generate a new key without needing the original, done at the van wherever it is parked.

Spare key cut from an existing key: A fleet Sprinter running on a single key is a real risk. We cut and program a second key while you still have a working original — considerably cheaper than an emergency all-keys-lost callout later.

Worn ignition barrel on high-mileage vans: Fleet Sprinters rack up kilometres fast, and a barrel that is starting to feel loose or needs extra force is worth having checked before it fails mid-run.

Frequently asked

Mercedes-Benz key questions

Can you program a key for my Mercedes Sprinter?

Yes, for the NCV3/W906 generation (2007–2018) — spare keys, all-keys-lost recovery, and lost-key deletion, all done at your van. The current VS30 Sprinter (2019 onward) runs FBS4, which needs the Mercedes dealer network.

How is the Sprinter different from other Mercedes you cannot do past 2014?

Most Mercedes passenger cars moved to the closed FBS4 system around 2015. The Sprinter NCV3 kept the older FBS3 system through to 2018, so we can cover it several years later than a C-Class or E-Class of the same era.

My van cannot sit idle — how fast can you get to an all-keys-lost Sprinter?

We prioritise commercial vehicles and will give you a realistic arrival window on the call. Most all-keys-lost NCV3 jobs are resolved same-day.

How much does Sprinter key replacement cost?

Roughly $300–$480 for a standard key on an NCV3, more for all-keys-lost — confirmed exactly over the phone once we know your build.

My Sprinter is a 2019 or newer build — what then?

That is the VS30 generation on FBS4. We will tell you plainly rather than book a job we cannot finish, and point you to Mercedes NZ for that work.
